Jan Marino Scholarship Open For Applications

December 03, 2019

SeriesFest is honored to partner with the Stephens College M.F.A. in Television and Screenwriting for the third year on the Jan Marino Scholarship, designed to support women in film over 45 who are students in the Stephens College M.F.A. in Television and Screenwriting program. Named to honor author Jan Marino, the mother of M.F.A. student Betsy Marino Leighton, the scholarship nurtures the power of strong, independent female storytelling in television and film. The Jan Marino Scholarship is part of the SeriesFest Featuring Women platform of initiatives designed to empower female content creators.

"Winning the Jan Marino scholarship award from SeriesFest Season 5 is an incredible honor, especially when seeing the pool of deserving and talented female candidates. Jan’s work is significant because she became a published author at age fifty-five. She broke through age barriers that most certainly denotes invisibility for women then and now." - Mary Robins Season 5 Jan Marino Scholarship Winner

Scholarships are available to women 45 and older and will be awarded based upon need and writing samples which demonstrate an original voice and a desire to explore deeply emotional aspects of the human condition, just as Jan Marino did.

To be considered, you must apply to the Stephens College M.F.A. in Television and Film program. Learn more here.
